What is coccidiosis?
Coccidiosis is a parasitic disease of the intestinal tract of animals caused by coccidian protozoa. The parasite lays eggs in the intestine which is passed through the animal via faeces and onto the grass and soil. The next animal then eats the grass and then gets infected and the cycle repeats itself.
Symptoms of coccidiosis:
Loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhoea, rough coat and weakness are all signs of coccidiosis. In more severe cases, there will be presence of blood and mucus in the scour. Death will occur if left untreated. Seek veterinary advice if concerned
